I have been breaking down a pallet to make some bedside tables. The classification on it said it was from the USA, code 01391 and was HT. I figured it was safe to use. It was a beautiful brown and cream color but when I sanded it down the brown turned to grey and so I no longer know if I should use it. Would it have just been the weather that could have turned it that color, or has it potentially had chemicals on it?
It is such beautiful wood I really want to use it but only if it is safe. Would polyurethane seal it and make it safe?
Thanks
Hi Janni,
As the pallet is marked as Heat Treated, it should be safe to use. But, maybe the pallet was used to transport chemical products which is something you can’t know.
Concerning the grey color, it’s a normal color due to weather condition, every wood when stocked outside, start to become grey with time.
Hope this helps,
