Picked up some free pallets off of Craiglist

  • 0

Picked up some free pallets off of Craiglist (I think a medical device mftr) for a compost bin project. They don’t appear to be stamped. The labels/markings that are there are shown in the photos. Any concerns (e.g., toxicity) about using them for a compost bin?  Thanks.

Are EPAL pallet blocks water-resistant?

  • -2

I have seen some grow box builds using EPAL pallet blocks in corers to join the planks. My question is, are these blocks very water-resistant? It seems like they will be subjected to moisture quite regularly.

Pallet boards warping and bowing when glued together

  • 0

I built a 40″ diameter clock and a baseball and bat shelf from pallet wood. After a couple of days, the wood bowed and warped making them unusable. I glued the boards together and screwed a 1×2″ support to the back of the projects. The wood was dry at the time. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Pallet nails

Hello, I recently read on a log burner forum that some of the nails used to construct pallets have coatings of lead, mercury and other hazardous materials. It was a warning to people burning pallets in log burners which were widely castigated. I have burnt a lot of pallets and have never found any evidence in the form of solidified lead or liquid mercury amongst the ashes. However, I was sufficiently concerned to conduct an internet search which produced no results. I ...Read more

Is this just weathered or is it chemicals?

  • 0

I have been breaking down a pallet to make some bedside tables. The classification on it said it was from the USA, code 01391 and was HT. I figured it was safe to use. It was a beautiful brown and cream color but when I sanded it down the brown turned to grey and so I no longer know if I should use it. Would it have just been the weather that could have turned it that color, or has ...Read more
